Mortality and Me Podcast
Let’s face it, no one likes to talk about it…so let’s face it together…
Starting the conversation….
Our Goals and Vision
Dying is the ONE thing we all have in common, yet it is the one conversation we seem reluctant to have.
Mortality and Me explores aspects of death, dying and beyond that may normally be uttered in whispers.
We invite you to join in the conversation by either submitting your questions to talk@mortalityand.me or by joining us for our online chat show and being part of the conversation in real time.
Who We Are
Founded by Hilary Steel, a broadcaster and presenter to was motivated by personal circumstances to retrain as a funeral celebrant. The world of the dead and the dying became a conversation she was no longer scared to have. Realising that many people are scared to talk about this stuff, or rather, that they don’t want to, she decided to take it one step further and invite people to quash those fears.
Our Story
We know what it’s like to lose someone close to you. To then have to pack away their life and make sure that all the paperwork etc is taken care of. We also know how frustrating it can be and how much conflicting information can be thrown around at a time when there isn’t really time to think straight.
We met a lot of people on the way who filled in a lot of gaps and also gave us reason to smile in grief. Now it’s our turn.

“Life is too short to take everything so seriously. I’ve been taught some valuable lessons in my years alive so far and I am to spend the years I have left, living them to the full. I have a cheeky sense of humour and try to find the positive in most things, including sad situations.
I also work as a funeral celebrant and believe that this is the BEST thing I have EVER done. Being able to work with families at their most vulnerable times to give their loved ones a fitting send off is amazing. I don’t simply copy and paste from previous ceremonies, I like to get to know the person and then write something unique. It may be a poem, a reading or simply an observation, whatever it is…It will be JUST for them!
I am a HUGE fan of cooking and can often be found trying to play ‘celebrity chef’ in my own kitchen. I own a lovely little dog called Spud who entertains me on a daily basis.
